Is it still a rule to not wear white after Labor Day?

I love this question…the answer is no it is still not a rule. In fact if you walk into a department store right now you will see several trend statements with white. Let me try and put this in prospective. This “rule” came into effect sometime in the late 1800’s. Labor Day became an official holiday in 1894. Talk about a dated rule. And it was put into place by snobby society women of that time in order to tell who was acceptable and who wasn’t, the women who were already “in” felt it necessary to create dozens of fashion rules that everyone in the know had to follow. One of the most famous women to break that rule is Coco Channel. Fashion rules are meant to be broken. But it’s all about how you do it. If you want to wear your white jeans in the fall, maybe pair it back to Black or Navy instead of a pastel color. Also try a winter white it’s not quite ivory and it’s not a stark white. It’s lovely in the fall especially paired back to some silver or gold for a holiday party.

Your “Look” and How You Present Yourself Matters in the Business Environment

shutterstock_183507821How you present yourself says a lot about you. Its nonverbal communication telling the world who you are. And weather you believe it or not we live in a visually oriented world, and people think what they see is what they get. Especially when it comes to the business world. It contributes to making a good first impression.

I want you to think about this, when the boss or client sees you, you want him thinking that you are a person who has it together. That you take pride in how you look and make an effort to do so.

Putting in a little effort in what you wear makes you look more confident and professional, and that might give you an edge over any competition that might have comparable experience.  Think about a time when you may have been shopping around to hire a service or someone. If you had two people with the exact same background and service, and they also offered similar prices. What would be a deciding factor for you? Would it not come down to their personality and how they portrayed or represented themselves? Would you not think…well who would I rather work with and have representing me?

A well put together individual demands respect. It shows not only that you respect yourself and are deserving of respect, but that you also respect the company. It does not matter if you are a sole proprietor or part of a major corporation. You want to show that you respect it enough to care about the image you portray when you are representing a company or your personal business.

Is Matching Still Important?

Is Matching Still Considered Important? Shoes, Handbags, Accessories, Nail Polish: Should they all match?

Ok, here is the thing when it comes to the whole matching thing. It’s dated. It’s not about making sure that your shoes and handbag or accessories are a set, it’s about these pieces being complementary. Maybe they are two variations of the same color. Or two colors and or fabrication that look great together. Accessories are about making a statement. They are that extra pop that pulls that whole look together.
